CLE: Sick & Tired of Being Sick & Tired: Fighting for Health Equity in WNY

Presented by the BAEC’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, WNY Chapter

2.5 CLE credits:
1.0 Diversity, Inclusion & Elimination of Bias (appropriate for Experienced Attorneys only), 1.5 Areas of Professional Practice (appropriate for all attorneys)

Civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer used the rallying cry “We are sick and tired of being sick and tired” in the Jim Crow South, but decades later, serious health disparities -racial and otherwise- persist throughout the United States. Join us at the Community Health Center of Buffalo (CHCB) to learn about the historical and legal context of health inequities, and how the legal community can support local initiatives to address them.

The program will begin with a screening of the short documentary Fight for Good, which centers CHCB’s inclusive work in the context of the disparities exacerbated during the COVID pandemic. Doris Carbonell-Medina, Esq. will give essential context about Western New York’s historical and contemporary healthcare landscape. Dr. LaVonne Ansari, CEO and Executive Director, and Dr. Kenyani Davis, Chief Medical Officer, of CHCB will join her for a panel discussion about how inequality can be addressed locally.

All are welcome to stay after the Q&A for a community reception catered by the Downtown Bazaar!
