May 17, 2024 marks 70 years since the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision from the US Supreme Court, which found that “separate but equal” racial segregation was unconstitutional, setting up the eventual integration of schools and other public spaces.
For this anniversary, we reflect on the legacy of civil rights cases, including Briggs v. Elliott, and their impact in Buffalo and beyond, celebrating our pioneers and those who continue to work to make education accessible to all.
