This lecture will supply you with effective strategies on how to draft FOIL requests and administrative appeals.  In addition, you will learn how to commence an Article 78 proceeding to compel recalcitrant agencies to release sought-after records.  Information on how to recover attorney fees and litigation costs will also be provided.  Anyone interested in open government issues won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind lecture.

Presenter Michael Kuzma is a solo practitioner based in Buffalo, who has utilized federal and state Freedom of Information laws for nearly four decades.  He successfully argued Bottom v. Fischer, 129 AD 3d 1604 (4th Dept. 2015), in which attorney’s fees and litigation costs were awarded under FOIL. Leslie James Pickering, Co-Owner of Burning Books is also a presenter.
