ASMNY is actively seeking a dynamic full-time staff attorney to provide legal assistance to domestic violence survivors in a holistic, client-centered practice in Oswego and Jefferson counties. It is anticipated that casework will be evenly distributed between both counties, though the distribution could shift based on funding and client needs. The position is based in our Oswego office and reports to the Managing Attorney.
LASMNY is a non-profit public interest law firm. We provide free legal information, advice and representation to people who are unable to afford a lawyer. The program area includes (13) counties: Broome, Chenango, Cayuga, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego and Otsego. In addition, our Farmworker Law Project services the entire New York State out of our New Paltz Office.
Essential Job Functions The staff attorney will provide direct and comprehensive legal services to survivors of domestic violence including advice, negotiation, and litigation in family law and matrimonial matters in Jefferson County. In addition, the staff attorney will be focused on providing holistic representation in matters related to abuse or violence in Oswego County. This includes providing direct and comprehensive legal services to eligible clients including advice, negotiation, and litigation in family law and matrimonial matters. Additionally, this will include providing holistic representation in matters related to the abuse or violence, including but not limited to, housing, public benefits, disability, employment, consumer, education, health and elder law. Will be required to comply with all Legal Services Corporation (LSC) regulations, LASMNY policies and procedures and grant-based reporting requirements.
Job Qualifications The successful candidate must be admitted to the New York State (NYS) Bar. Law Graduates waiting for NYS Bar results/admission may be considered with strong writing and oral advocacy backgrounds. Trial experience preferred. A commitment to serving indigent community members and survivors of domestic violence is required. Other qualifying factors include: the nature and extent of prior legal experience; knowledge and understanding of the legal problems and needs of low-income individuals and domestic violence survivors; prior experience in the client community or in other programs to aid low-income individuals and domestic violence survivors; and ability to communicate with persons in the client community. Travel is required. Bilingual or multilingual is a plus.

Estimated salary range is:
- Admitted to the NYS Bar: Estimated salary range is $60,000 - $90,540. DOE
- Law Graduate: Estimated salary range is $58,000 - $59,000. DOE
