Description
The Town of Amherst in Erie County, NY is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Coordinator of Employee Relations to assist the Town’s Director of Human Resources in coordinating the employee relations and human resource functions for a large urban municipality. Incumbent will assist in labor negotiations in collective bargaining with five employee unions, administration of all collective bargaining agreements and coordinating and ensuring adherence to NYS and local Civil Service regulations.
The Coordinator Acts as liaison and works cooperatively with the County Personnel
Office in applying personnel and Civil Service rules; helps supervise the Town’s personnel and employee relations operations including recruiting, interviewing and recommending employment of Civil Service personnel; processing personnel transactions and maintenance of records. Also assists in coordinating and conducting grievance procedures, mediations, arbitrations and matters before PERB.
Strong written and verbal communication, professionalism and independent judgement required. Solid knowledge of the general principles, practices, and procedures
used in collective bargaining negotiations and in public personnel administration is necessary; along with thorough knowledge of NYS Civil Service Law, and the ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with employer and employee working groups.
Applicants must be licensed, or eligible to be licensed, to practice law and in good standing in the State of New York.
Salary range is $105,336.62 - $145,942.82, commensurate based upon experience. Enrollment in New York State Retirement System and excellent benefits package available.
