Assistant District Attorney

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for full-time Assistant District Attorneys for both recently admitted and established attorneys.  Applicants should have an interest in courtroom advocacy and litigation, a commitment to pursuing justice and the ability to provide support to victims in need.  Members of our legal staff are provided with training, mentorship and ongoing opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Resident of Erie County.
• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Prior to effective date of employment, candidates must have either:

(1) passed the NYS Bar Examination and are awaiting admission to the NYS Bar, or (2) been admitted to the practice of law in NYS, in good standing, or

(3) if you are a recent law school graduate, you must sit for first available New York State Bar Examination.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Organized management of an active criminal case docket.
• Investigating cases, including meeting and interviewing witnesses, drafting subpoenas and search warrants, and advising local law enforcement.
• Handling discovery and motion practice.
• Conducting grand jury presentations, hearings, motions arguments and trials.
• Court appearances pertaining to all phases of a criminal case.

Job Benefits:

• Starting salary for new admitted attorneys is $83,959; on January 1, 2027, this increases to $96,389.
