Federal Court Lays Out Procedures for Public Access to Remote Court Proceedings

Due to the current COVID‐19 emergency and within the bounds of the CARES Act, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York is using both video conferencing and teleconferencing technologies for some proceedings. Use of these technologies allows the Court to continue its statutory business while at the same time allowing for the appropriate social distancing.

These proceedings remain open to the public and the press. For access by the press or public, connections to these proceedings shall be telephonic. Members of the press or public will be able to connect to these proceedings via telephone and hear the proceeding. Because of the nature of these proceedings, members of the press and public will be muted upon connecting to these proceedings. Recording, streaming or duplication of the proceeding is strictly prohibited. Failure to abide by these rules is punishable by fines, imprisonment or both.

Due to the technologies in use by the Court, each proceeding can have unique contact information. Therefore, please contact the judge’s chambers for the contact information for the proceeding you are interested in attending. Their phone numbers are listed below, and if you are directed to voice mail upon contacting a judge’s chambers, please leave a message and your call will be returned. If you are unsure which judge is presiding over a particular proceeding, or if you have general questions on which proceedings are available, please contact the Office of the Clerk at:
