Celebrate African American History Month with a Tour at Buffalo AKG Art Museum

On February 22, 2026, the Buffalo AKG will host a themed tour for BAEC members centered on African Americans as artists, and people of color as subjects of modern and contemporary art works. The tour will highlight the achievements of artists such as Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Horace Pippin, Howardina Pindell, Theaster Gates, and Mickaleen Thomas.

This docent-led experience will feature a curated experience focused on the artworks of African American artists while contextualizing their contributions to American society and to the art world at large.

This specialized tour will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026. It will depart from the visitor experience desk at the AKG Gundlach building. The tour will last for approximately one hour. Admission costs and other logistical details can be found at buffaloakg.org. Please arrive early to purchase admission prior to the tour’s departure. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The costs are below:

Adults, $22
Seniors (Ages 62+), $20
College Students, $20
Youth (Ages 5–18), $10
Children (Ages 4 and under), FREE
Members, FREE

Depending on the number of attendees, we could possibly get a group rate, but it’s not guaranteed. Please note that attendees will pay for their admission upon arrival to the AKG, so please plan to arrive a few minutes before the tour departs.

Please RSVP by Thursday, February 19th to Emily Bulan, [email protected] so we can inquire further for a possible group rate.
