An Introduction to Jail Time and Sentencing: What Criminal Defense Attorneys Should Know

Product Code: 2334
Presented on September 18, 2019
1.0 CLE credit: Areas of Professional Practice

This training will discuss how pre-sentence confinement (Jail Time) is defined under Penal Law 70.30 and how that statute controls its application to sentences of incarceration.  It will include an overview on how multiple sentences and their running (concurrent or consecutive) effects the way this credit is applied as well as what happens when one sentence is pronounced while other charges remain pending.   We will then highlight some common circumstances that can lead to the loss of Jail Time and what attorneys can do to try to avoid, or remedy that loss.
