The Assigned Counsel Program is soliciting new panel members for both our Family Court and Criminal Panels.  This opportunity is available to all members of the Bar Association of Erie County.  The Assigned Counsel Program is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The Assigned Counsel Program provides private practice attorneys as counsel to indigent persons who are either charged with a crime or who are a party in certain Family Court matters, including custody and visitation, abuse and neglect and support violations.  Payment is made at rates set by statute.  The rates are $60/hour for misdemeanor representation and $75/hour for all other types of assignments, including all Family Court cases and Felonies. 

The successful applicants in this highly competitive process will be invited to join our program and engage in a 12 session criminal or family court training session which is the envy of the State of New York.  Beyond learning procedural and substantive law, you will participate in four trial technique sessions guaranteed to make an improvement in your current trial skills.  During the training sessions, you will be given cases to handle under supervision and mentoring and you will be paid for your work.  Following completion of the training program, you will join one of our panels, be assigned to a mentor, receive cases and take the first steps toward your future.
