The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York is hiring one pro se law clerk to serve a two-year term (subject to available funding) for the Office of Pro Se Litigation. The Office of Pro Se Litigation serves the District and Magistrate Judges of the Court in the handling of all cases filed by individuals who are representing themselves in court. The Second Circuit Judicial Council invites applications from highly-qualified candidates for a Bankruptcy Judge position in the Southern District of New York.   The person selected will maintain chambers in Bowling Green, New York.  The basic jurisdiction of a bankruptcy judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. §§ 151-159.  Or Title 28 of the United States Code, sections 151 to 159.

The term of office is 14 years.  The current annual salary is $185,012

Responsibilities:
  • Attends discrimination case conferences and reviews cases for legal action, preparing written summaries in matters in which HOME is to be a party.
  • Prepares administrative complaints for filing; reviews documents obtained during discovery and prepares rebuttals to respondents’ answers.
  • Attends administrative hearings in order to advise HOME clients of their rights.

  • Apprises counseling staff of developments in fair housing and landlord-tenant law.
  • Consults with the Executive Director on litigation policies and procedures.
  • Assists in recruitment of cooperating attorneys, offering training, resources and technical assistance in fair housing law.
  • Assists in training investigators; analyzes and summarizes testing results.
  • Assists with HOME’s housing counseling caseload.
  • Fulfills any and all other duties which may, from time-to-time, be assigned by the Executive Director or Associate Director.
